Design & Usability
It would be nice to say once upon a time, but even today web design is often impractical with low regard given to the user experience purpose, functionality, and usability. In many cases, little sense is applied to the usage of the screen space, and developers are caught by their own self-satisfaction regarding their ability to create flashy presentations. By doing so, they ignore the fundamental premise of web design: users want information that is easily accessible, accurate, and meaningful. Successful developers take pride in understanding the concept of usability, and of being able to apply it for the sole purpose of helping the website experience for those using their client's sites. Good web design is not art.
